SOBEFEST was back in Miami for its 15th edition. With more than 80 events that took place across both Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the 2016 Festival featured returning fan-favorite events as well as plenty of new ones that satisfied any appetite. To celebrate its 15th year, the organizers added an extra day to SOBEWFF® with the kick-off to the Festival’s inaugural Taste Fort Lauderdale Series which took place on Wednesday, February 24. Longtime Festival friend, cookbook author and star of Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible and Chopped: Impossible, Irvine hosted 15 of South Florida’s best chefs at the historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens for this walk-around tasting featuring pours from Chȃteau D’Esclans and Marqués de Riscal.
The year the SOBEFEST hosted its first kosher dinner at Rok Family Shul – Chabad Downtown Jewish Center. Christensen, Shaya and Solomonov brought discoveries from a recent culinary tour of Israel, and are joined by South Florida’s own Zak the Baker, to present this Glatt kosher experience under the strict supervision of Rabbi Chaim Lipskar of The Shul of Downtown Miami.
As if the food itself wasn’t exciting enough, the SOBEFEST organizer decided to step it up a notch by having a late-night soirée hosted by Sports Illustrated cover model, television host, savvy social media maven and soon-to-be cookbook author, Chrissy Teigen. Fireman Derek – the South Florida favorite, known for his “out-of this world” pies, had gathered up firefighters from all over Miami to serve up their best breakfast meals at this midnight affair accented by offerings from Kenwood Vineyards.
The event was spectacular and awesome. Celebrates from all over the world came to enjoy this beautiful and absolutely remarkable celebration.
